From June 20 to 27, Huang Zhenzhou, CFO of China Merchants Port Holdings (CMPort), led a delegation to Brazil for a series of meetings in the country. The group was accompanied by a delegation from the Shanghai International Port Group and its chairman, Song Xiaodong.

In Paranaguá, the delegation led by Huang Zhenzhou and the Shanghai Port Group delegation visited the facilities of the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) to assess security and local management. During the visit, the group discussed future cooperation guidelines and attended a presentation by the technical team on operations and the progress of key projects. Huang Zhenzhou praised TCP’s recent results and highlighted the importance of strengthening management, mitigating risks, and consolidating the port’s high-quality development.

The agenda also included a strategic meeting with the CEO of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia. At the meeting, the executives discussed expanding the terminal’s capacity and evaluated new business opportunities in potential projects. The program concluded with a field visit by boat to the region’s main port areas.

In São Paulo, Huang Zhenzhou visited Banco da China Brasil S.A. to discuss Brazil’s proposal to liberalize the opening of foreign currency accounts. During the visit, CMPort’s chief financial officer met with the bank’s team to evaluate ways to integrate the entire foreign currency settlement chain following the regulatory change—including revenue, expenses, and dividends—which should help avoid the high financing costs caused by foreign exchange restrictions. In addition, discussions took place on topics such as foreign exchange risk management, financing methods, and foreign currency settlement.

The delegation also visited Bai Chunhui, Commercial Counselor at the Chinese Consulate General in São Paulo, to present the business development of China Merchants Port in Brazil and exchange views on the business environment in the country and the development of Chinese companies abroad.

During his visit to the country, Huang Zhenzhou also met with officials from Brazil’s Ministry of Ports and Airports, the Paranaguá Port Pilotage Service, and COSCO Shipping (South America) to further deepen cooperative relations with Brazil’s port and shipping sectors. He greeted all Chinese employees seconded to TCP and participated in a forum with representatives of young professionals, encouraging them to remain confident, take on responsibilities, and make an even greater contribution to the overall development of China Merchants Port and to economic and trade relations between China and Brazil.

The delegation’s itinerary also included stops in Itajaí and Santos, with meetings focused on the market, regulations, investments, partnerships, and infrastructure.
