Route connects Paranaguá to port terminals in Uruguay and Argentina

On Monday (23), the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) received the inaugural mooring of the Atlas (Atlantic Shuttle) maritime service operated by Mercosul Line, a cabotage carrier and multimodal logistics provider, part of the CMA CGM Group. With fortnightly stops in Paranaguá, the line runs a route connecting Paranaguá to the port terminals of Santos, Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Mar del Plata.

The CMA CGM Platon container ship is 170 meters long (LOA), 27 meters wide (beam) and has the capacity to carry 1,713 TEUs (equivalent to a 20-foot container).

TCP’s commercial manager for shipowners, Carolina Merkle Brown, points out that “this new service brings an important increase in transport capacity between Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, boosting business between commercial partners in the three countries, as well as benefiting transhipment operations, improving logistical efficiency for the trade that operates through Paranaguá”.

Characterized by the transfer of containers between ships operating on different maritime lines, transhipment operations at TCP grew by 135% in 2024, reaching the mark of 128,423 TEUs in the period between January and August.

With the arrival of the new service, TCP now has 21 maritime services in its portfolio. “With more maritime lines operating at the Terminal, we reinforce our strategy of acting as a port hub, concentrating shipowners’ operations in a safe and efficient way,” adds Carolina.
