Exports from Paraná stand out with record performance in the third quarter

Pork and turkey meat, which are guaranteed a place on the Brazilian table during the Christmas and New Year festivities, are also gaining ground around the world. This is indicated by the increase in the volume of these products exported by TCP, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal.

Between January and November 2024, pork shipments at TCP performed 23% better than in the same period in 2023, reaching 193,000 tons, a volume transported in 14,034 TEUs (the size of a 20-foot container). Turkey meat saw a 63% increase at the Terminal, with 4,600 tons exported in 348 TEUs.

TCP’s commercial, logistics and customer service manager, Giovanni Guidolim, explains that “the increase in inflationary pressure on beef prices has led to pork gaining more space both on Brazilians’ tables and on the international market. In this scenario, Paraná is gaining prominence thanks to its optimized export logistics through Paranaguá, and the most recent billion-dollar investments in new production units in the state, including the construction of the largest pork processing plant in Latin America.

According to the most recent bulletin from the Paraná Department of Rural Economy (Deral), the period between July and September 2024 was the second best in the historical series, recorded since 1997, for pork production in the state: the volume was 300,000 tons, just 3,000 tons less than the figure recorded in the same period in 2023.

However, the highlight was the performance of pork exports from Paraná. Combining road and sea transport, the state exported 53,000 tons, the best quarterly result in the historical series.

TCP had a better performance in pork exports, which totaled 64,500 tons in the period between July and August. The performance was mainly driven by shipments from Paraná, which accounted for more than 50% of this volume. Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul and Mato Grosso completed the list of the five states that exported the most through the Paranaguá Container Terminal in the third quarter.

“TCP is a national benchmark as the main corridor for exporting frozen meat in the country, as we have the largest yard for storing refrigerated containers in South America, with 5,268 sockets. This translates into greater reliability and operational flexibility, factors that make it more efficient to receive volumes both produced in Paraná and volumes produced in other states and neighboring countries,” says Guidolim.

Among the main destinations for pork exported by the country throughout the year are the Philippines, China, Chile, Japan and Hong Kong.
