New milestones achieved following the completion of the latest investment package
The company managing the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) has set a new all-time record for container handling in a single month, with 137,370 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) handled throughout October’s 31 days. This figure represents a 10% increase compared to the same month last year and marks the fourth monthly handling record broken in 2024.
“The successive volume records achieved this year are a direct result of the completion of our most recent investment package, totaling R$370 million. This included expanding our fleet to 40 RTGs (rubber-tired gantry cranes) and 69 TTs (terminal trucks), as well as completing critical infrastructure projects such as the modernization of the gates (road access routes to the terminal),” explains Felipe de França, TCP’s Operations Planning Manager. “Thanks to these investments, the market has increased imports and exports through Paranaguá, confident in our operational capacity to support their growing global business demands.”
In October, exports totaled 45,119 TEUs, led by the meat and frozen goods segment, which reached 22,285 TEUs—equivalent to 305,000 tons of goods. The agribusiness, paper, and wood segment ranked second with 16,883 TEUs, followed by consumer goods and electronics with 2,118 TEUs.
Imports, meanwhile, reached 34,873 TEUs, driven by the arrival of consumer goods and electronics (10,141 TEUs). The automotive and vehicle segment accounted for 9,928 TEUs, while chemicals and petrochemicals contributed 6,077 TEUs.
October also marked the second-highest month in TCP’s history for vessel berthings, with 88 ships docking at the terminal—just one shy of the current record of 89, set in February 2024.
On October 21, TCP reached a significant milestone by handling 1.25 million TEUs, equaling the total volume handled in all of 2023 and representing an accumulated growth of 34% for the year.
