The award was given to entities and municipalities committed to measuring and reducing their carbon footprint

TCP, the company that manages the Paranaguá Container Terminal, was awarded the Selo Clima Paraná (Paraná Climate Seal), an award that recognizes companies, public bodies and municipalities that voluntarily develop actions to monitor and reduce their carbon footprint, as well as implementing ESG actions, such as environmental, social responsibility and governance measures, to combat climate change. The ceremony took place last Wednesday (4), in the auditorium of the Federation of Industries of Paraná (Fiep), in Curitiba.

The award, granted by the State Secretary for Sustainable Development (Sudest), was presented to 185 entities in the state, including private companies, public bodies and municipalities during the 10th edition of the Paraná Climate Seal. TCP was recognized in the “B external” category, for companies that export.

“Winning the Selo Clima Paraná recognizes that TCP is moving in the right direction to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make port operations more sustainable. This is an extremely important indicator for our customers and partners, who reduce the carbon footprint in their logistics chain by loading and unloading their cargo through the Terminal”, celebrates Kayo Zaiats, TCP’s environmental manager.

Among the main measures adopted by the management of the Paranaguá Container Terminal is the purchase of energy exclusively from renewable sources. As a result, TCP was awarded the I-REC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) certificate for the second year running, which confirmed the offsetting of more than 80,000 MWh over the course of 2023.

The pilot project for the electrification of tire-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) also stands out, reaching its second consecutive year with the conversion of combustion engines to electric models in three machines at the Terminal. As a result, the equipment, which moves cargo between trucks and container blocks, has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 97% in the operation of each RTG.

“As a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, TCP is continuously working to integrate measures to combat climate change, because we believe that the port sector plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” concludes Zaiats.
