Awarding took place during the 16th Ecobrasil Seminar, held in Rio de Janeiro.

On April 26 and 27, the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) participated in the 16th National Seminar on Maritime Industry and Environment (Ecobrasil), promoted by the magazine Portos e Navios, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. During the Environmental Responsibility award, TCP received an honorable mention as a finalist for the Troca Solidária project. In all, 22 projects from companies in the ports and terminals, shipyards, shipping companies, manufacturers and mining segments were enrolled.

The goal of Troca Solidária is to raise awareness in the island communities of the Paranaguá region to practice the separation of recyclable solid waste, reducing environmental pollution and ensuring a new source of income for families. “It is through projects like this that we help introduce concepts of environmental education, encourage the preservation of nature and sustainability in the region,” says institutional manager Allan Chiang.

The collection of the material is done by the floating market, a boat that passes once a month in the communities. Each recycled material is weighed and converted into social money for the families that participate in the program. This money is used to buy food, as well as hygiene and cleaning items available on the boat, which sells products at prices up to 40% below the regular market value.

The recycled material goes to the Nova Esperança Collectors and Recyclers Association, located on Valadares Island. Since the beginning of the project, more than 332 tons have been recycled and 338 families have benefited. The program operates in the communities of Europinha, Eufrasina, Amparo, Piaçaguera, São Miguel, Ponta de Ubá, and Ilha dos Valadares, and has already provided more than 5.000 services.

“TCP stimulates the social development of the Paraná coast by supporting local projects. Since 2012, we have already supported 232 socio-environmental projects and, each year, we are evolving in this concept,” concludes Chiang.

Socio-environmental Responsibility Award

The Ports and Ships Socio-environmental Responsibility award was created to encourage actions that promote the preservation of the environment and social development in the areas where industries and companies with maritime activities operate. This is the third edition of the award, the first after the pandemic, and the areas of ports and terminals, shipping companies, shipyards, manufacturers, and mining companies are represented.
